Well, I get what you're saying. But Lou died in 2013. He was born in '42, a few months before Jerry, but had grown old, found a soul mate, and made a level of peace with past demons. Jerry died "alone," but only on a technicality, given that I guess he wouldn't have been up for a shared room in rehab and also got his exit notice without a warning. When people thought he was dying in '86 he wasn't alone. The people who surrounded him weren't always good for him, and if they were he didn't listen anyway (what with being an addict) ... and yeah, a lot of the behavior (squabbling, hand sitting etc) looks pathetic ... but that was then. I bet Lou Reed has a "then," too, but he didn't die during it. Had Jerry lived until now, and known the end was coming as Lou did, I'm betting the 71-year-old Jerry would have had his warm caring scene too.
